Outlaw Country Cruise Announces Second Installment
It still seems a little strange to talk about “Outlaws” going on some swanky cruise out in the Caribbean. But it was apparently such a hoot the first time that organizers have put together a second installment, and once again the lineup is killer.
This time the journey will embark from Tampa, Florida to Cozumel, Mexico from February 26th to March 2nd, and feature many of the same artists from the first cruise like Blackberry Smoke and Lucinda Williams, as well a DJ’s from SiriusXM’s Outlaw channel like Elizabeth Cook and Mojo Nixon.
The cruise will four nights on the Norwegian Jade cruise ship, a stay over in Cozumel, multiple shows from the artists including unique collaborations between performers, up close access to the artists, live tapings of SiriusXM shows, and other “Outlaw-inspired activities and theme nights.”

The cruise is being orchestrated by Sixthman, which is the promotional outfit behind Kid Rock’s “Chillin’ The Most” cruise, and the Americana-themed “Cayamo” cruise which is now in its tenth year.
I’m not sure Hank or Waylon would have done it this way, but you’d probably be lying to yourself if you said you wouldn’t like to swing this if you could. More performers will be announced soon, and you can sign-up for the pre-sale now.
Initial Outlaw Country Cruise Lineup:

Yep. Killer line-up. Saw the Cayamo lineup and it looks great as well. Steve Earle will be on that one as well.
I went on Cayamo 2011. Best damn vacation of my life. My recommendation is if you like the lineup on one of these SIxthman cruise and can make it work, then go for it. Even if you don’t think you’re a cruise person. This is different.
Speaking of Elizabeth Cook, I can’t wait for her new album to drop on June 17th.

Don’t know how Waylon and Willie’s relationship was at the tail end of Waylon’s life but I would love to think he would’ve taken part in Willie’s Reggae album that he did one time.

I’ve heard-tell that they had a bit of a falling out right there at the end, though I’ve not been able to drum up any sort of corroborating evidence as of this writing. On the classic live album VH1 Storytellers with Willie and Johnny Cash, both of them mention that “it’s about time for another Highwaymen album and tour” between songs. It was released in 1998 and they’d been putting out a Highwaymen album every five years since 1985, so I’d think they had every intention of seriously pursuing another. But that never happened and it’s yet another mystery as to why. If Waylon and Willie did indeed have a falling out that might have contributed (not to mention Cash’s and Waylon’s failing health at the time). I assume Willie still loved him like a brother regardless of whatever disagreements they might have had, and was likely crushed to see him go in such a manner and so soon. Perhaps the upcoming Highwaymen documentary will shed a bit of light on the final years of their relationship.

as we discussed the last time you wrote about this it has nothing to do with being “outlaw” and everything to do with the SiriusXM “Outlaw Country” channel and the people who listen to it.
also being on a boat with Mojo Nixon for any length of time might be someone’s definition of hell.
YMMV.

hey, if it’s good enough for Blackberry Smoke, The Old 97’s and Lucinda Williams it’s good enough for me. i’ve actually been on several sixth man cruises. They put on a very organized production on those ships. it may not be outlaw, but it’s a boat load of fun.

Being trapped on a boat with Mojo Nixon sounds like my nightmare.

However great the lineup may be I don’t think there is any way I could make it a week with Mojo Nixon

I think I’d throw Mojo Nixon off the boat in the deepest part of the ocean I could find. I love my Sirius but Mojo Nixon is terrible. Screams shocking things and thinks it’s funny. That’s his schtick.

When I went on Cayamo 2011, it seemed like I saw Steve Earle somewhere out in public on the ship at least once a day (cafeteria, gym, etc.), which I thought was pretty cool. Man of the people and all that. I bet with Mojo Nixon, you would “hear” him every day and probably wished you didn’t.

Some were. Steve Earle, for sure. I remember seeing the fiddle player for Steep Canyon Rangers participating in an after hours jam session with fans who brought guitars. Buddy Miller was sitting right below me as we waited for Richard Thompson’s set and a few people approached him to sign stuff. He was very approachable. I saw many others out and about. Some I never saw outside of their shows.
On this one, along with Steve Earle, I would imagine Dale Watson would be. Probably others, too.

You see the guys (and girls) at the buffet, sitting and eating with their peeps, riding the elevator, chatting it up with other artists in the hallway. We are not the intrusive type, gathering photos and autographs, so we were content to watch from afar. Even though they are technically “working”, this is a vacation of sorts for them, too. Sixthman does an awesome job. This is not the standard mindless cruise where all there is to do is eat for 20 hours a day and get sunburned to a crisp. We’ve done Sixthman’s Kid Rock, Skynyrd, and Outlaw. All of them were stellar. We’re trying to decide between Kid Rock and Outlaw now!

I’m not an autograph seeker. Wouldn’t mind asking some questions about particular songs. Just curious.
