Randy Travis “Definitely” Has More Unheard Music Coming

Over the last few weeks, many fans of Randy Travis have been celebrating the 35th Anniversary of the release of his debut album Storms of Life by spinning the latest, remastered edition of the album that also comes with three previously-unreleased tracks. Randy Travis experienced aphasia after a stroke in 2013, a lot of folks wondered if perhaps there were unheard Randy Travis songs sitting in a vault somewhere. Getting a studio version of the song “Ain’t No Use,” and new songs “Carryin’ Fire” and “The Wall” were a welcome treat for Travis fans.
Those three songs were recorded at the same time as the original Storms of Life album, and were left off the original release. This is pretty customary when recording albums—to cut a few extra tracks each time and then take what you think is the pick of the litter. So the next question would be, are there even more unheard Randy Travis songs lurking out there? Well according to a recent report, the answer is “definitely.”
In late September, Randy Travis traveled to his hometown of Marshsville, North Carolina to check out a Randy Travis mural that had been finished months before by Scott Nurkin of the Mural Shop, and to make an appearance at the Randy Travis Music Festival. Marshville once made headlines by removing the sign proclaiming the town as the home of Randy Travis. They ended up replacing it with a newer, permanent sign in 2017.
While he was in town, Randy Travis also visited his boyhood home, and he and wife Mary were interviewed by the local CBS affiliate WBTV. In the interview with reporter Brian Stephenson, Mary talked about how the doctors at one point wanted to pull the plug on Randy when his 2013 heath woes were at their worst, believing the country star wouldn’t be able to be resuscitated. But when Randy squeezed Mary’s hand, that was all the sign she needed to keep fighting for Randy.
At the very end of the WBTV feature on Randy, one of the anchors says, “Brian (the reporter) asked if more songs could be coming in the future, and they said there are DEFINITELY more songs that they are working on.”
So there you go. Randy Travis released 22 studio albums over his career, so it stands to reason there would be additional studio tracks lurking out there somewhere. Whether they get released on new editions of the original albums, or compiled onto a new album, we’ll just have to see. But either way, it appears we haven’t heard the last of unheard Randy Travis songs just yet.

Great, Randy Travis is such a legend. I wish though they would put all his unreleased music, on one album, or two depending on how many songs there are.and it could be called lost hits or forgotten treasures or something like that. Don’t get me wrong Randy is great, and I want STORMS OF LIFE again, but having to buy all 22 albums again just for a couple of new songs on each one seems a bit much.
But i am happy he is releasing more songs, if need be, I will just get the albums with the unheard songs that I really want.

comments aren’t something that we have
it’s something that we do
we help to make each other all that we can be
though we can find our strength and inspiration independently
the way we work together is what sets our blog apart
so closely that you can’t tell where my comments end and where yours start
it gives me heart remembering how
we started with a simple like and reply
theres so much to look back on now
still it feels brand-new
we’re on a thread that has no end
and each day we begin again
comments not just something that we’re in
it’s something that we do

An album of previously unreleased material would be high on my wish list. One of the true great country singers

While looking at the CD jacket for Storms Of Life 35th Anniv. Edition, I noticed that on one of the Morningstar Sound Studio session sheets, you could see some other songs that were recorded. “She’s OK, I’m OK”, If my world didn’t have you”, and Shopping for dresses”. I wonder where these recording are? Would’ve like to have seen them included

Randy is a “he could sing the phonebook” kind of guy with excellent taste in songs.
Looking forward to anything.

Randy Travis, is one of the all time greats for me. He is the reason I got into Country Music,”Storms of Life” changed my life. I would like to see some of his live appearances also appear on disc. I am sure he recorded his fair share of radio shows like “Live at Westwood One”, or appearances at the Opry. When they did the Dwight Yoakam release of Guitars, and included Demos and a concert from the period, that would be the way to go for me. Make a regular edition with a couple of extra tracks and limited edition with a concert from the same era, for each of his albums. Wishful thinking!
