Sorry Ladies, Dwight Yoakam Is Off The Market

Dwight Yoakam’s done got hitched. In an extremely rare glimpse into his personal life, the 63-year-old announced in a statement on Monday (5-4) that he has married his long time fiancee Emily Joyce. The two had been dating since 2010. The private ceremony was held at the St. Monica Catholic Church in Santa Monica, CA in early March, just before the Coronaviurs shutdown went into effect.

“At a time when there is so much uncertainty in the world, there are still happy moments,” the couple said in a message. “In the face of shutdowns and social-distancing requirements, love prevailed, and the less than 10 attendees were seated at least six feet from one another. This belated announcement was withheld out of respect to so many people affected by and on the front lines of this pandemic.”

With how notoriously private Yoakam has been about his personal life over the years, it’s surprising any statement was released at all. But taking the wording, it might have been a preemptive move to make sure Dwight and those that gathered weren’t publicly criticized for congregating during the Coronavirus by sharing the details before they were misconstrued.

Dwight is rumored to have dated numerous other women over the years, including actresses Sharon Stone and Bridget Fonda, and he dated Wynonna Judd when the two were on tour together earlier in their careers. Otherwise, his personal life has remained mostly a mystery, though we know he’s never been married before, and has no kids.

What a lot of Yoakam fans want to know is if they’ll hear any new music from him in 2020. Dwight dropped two songs back in May of 2018, the old fashioned heartbreaker “Then Here Came Monday” co-written with Chris Stapleton, and the more upbeat “Pretty Horses.” He seemed to be preparing for a new record, but he’s been mum on the subject since then. Dwight is due for a new one since his last original Record Second Hand Heart was released 5 years ago, not counting his bluegrass record of some of his older songs from 2016, Swimmin’ Pools, Movie Stars…
