Sturgill Simpson Announces 2017 Tour Dates

Sturgill Simpson was planning to take 2017 off due to the recent birth of his second child, and a sense that he had an opportunity to rest on his laurels a little bit. But then two huge Grammy nominations for Best Country Album and Album of the Year shook up those plans, and now the philosophy is to strike while the iron is hot. Ahead of Sunday’s Grammy Awards where Sturgill Simpson will also perform, he’s announced a slew of 2017 tour dates to go along with numerous festival appearances.

The new tour dates show Sturgill Simpson graduating from large-capacity theaters in some markets to full-sized amphitheaters, including the famous Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado where he’ll play in late September, Austin 360 Amphitheater and Verizon Amphitheater in Texas where he tends to draw well, and the Amphitheater at the Warf in Alabama.

Other notable venues include playing Radio City Music Hall in New York on September 14th, and the famous Greek Theater in Los Angeles on October 6th. More dates may be added later, and so far no openers have been announced. “The performances will feature material from throughout Simpson’s catalog and is his way of thanking fans—both old and new—for a series of unprecedented years,” says the Sturgill Simpson camp.

NOTE: The dates from July 14th through July 16th look weird likely because Sturgill’s specific set times at the Sloss Music & Arts Festival and the Forecastle Festival have not been set yet, and so his calendar is showing all of the dates of the festivals. Tickets will go on sale February 16th. For more information on tour dates, click here.
