Sturgill Simpson, Hailey Whitters Lead New Adds to Top 25 Playlist (#76)

The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs have just been added.

Newest Additions:

Sturgill Simpson – “Hero” – When you have two hot bluegrass records both in the album charts at the same time, you may just pull off the rare feat of having two selections on the Top 25 Playlist simultaneously like Sturgill Simpson does. Just added from Cuttin’ Grass Vol. 2 is this ode to Sturgill’s grandfather.

Hailey Whitters (feat. Little Big Town) – “Fillin’ My Cup” – Whitters clobber knocks us with this excellent traditional country drinking song complete with a chorus open and fiddle start off that only gets better after that. When Hailey gets traditional, few are better. Who ever thought Little Big Town would be featured on the Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist? They enter through the back door thanks to this great song.

Craig Gerdes – “You’re Not in the Picture Anymore” – If you’re looking to jerk some tears, traditional country artist Craig Gerdes will have you weeping like a steel guitar on this well-written ode of country heartbreak.

Vivian Leva, Riley Calcagno – “Will You” – Individually, Vivian Leva and Riley Calcagno are already two of the most exciting, promising, and talented up-and-comers in most all of roots music, fluidly moving through old time, bluegrass, and classic country modes with an ease of execution, and displaying a passion for the enterprise of reviving old music that is infectious with the audience. Together, they’re even better. New self-titled album out March 12th.
