The amount of cancellations tied to the Coronavius outbreak can be dizzying to keep up with, even within the confines of independent country and roots. But a few important cancellations are worthy of note, including two dates on the Sturgill Simpson / Tyler Childers tour, and the Mike & The Moonpies Europe tour.
Old Settler’s Music Festival
The 32nd Annual Old Settler’s Music Festival is set to transpire April 11th thru 14th in Central Texas once again, and they just released their initial lineup. Taking place just outside of Lockhart, TX and within easy driving distance of Austin and San Antonio, it will be the festival’s 2nd year on their new permanent site
The Old Settler’s Music Festival is not just an enjoyable time for the patrons who frequent the fest each year. With its youth programs, and the opportunities it provides for up-and-coming acts along with established names, it’s an important part of the roots music ecosystem.
Aiofe O’Donovan, Balsam Range, Billy Strings, Colter Wall, I'm With Her, JD McPherson, Jimmy Sutton, Michael Trotter Jr., Old Settler's Music Festival, Sara Watkins, Sarah Jarosz, Sean McConnell, The War and Treaty, Wade Bowen, Will Hoge
Colter Wall is one of those artists you better damn well see while you have the opportunity to catch him in intimate settings. At only 22-years-old, you may have plenty of time to see him in the future, but with this level of talent and interest, it may not be in the mid-sized club, small theater level for much longer.
Maybe you have, or maybe you haven’t been following the strange and unfortunate row surrounding the Austin’s 31-year-old roots gathering called Old Settler’s Music Festival over the past few months. But it has come to illustrate a far too common problem in independent music.
