Texas Music Artists Adorn Cow Skulls for Good Cause

Matt “The Cat” Hillyer / Ray Wylie Hubbard / Cody Braun-adorned cow skulls

Radio station KHYI 95.3 The Range out of Dallas, TX is one of those renegade radio stations that plays whatever they want. As they say, “No one from New York or L.A. has the power to make us play Jason Aldean, or Kenny Chesney, or Rascal Flattulence. We’re mavericks…and we believe the world deserves to hear Robert Earl Keen, Ray Wylie Hubbard, the Turnpike Troubadours, and the Dirty River Boys. We also think its impossible to be a country radio station and not play Waylon and Willie, and Hank (Sr.), and J.R. Cash, and Merle, and the Possum.”

For fifteen years now the radio station has run a Canvas4Kids celebrity auction for charity, and this year they had the unique idea to send out cow skulls to various dignitaries from around the Texas music scene and beyind to be gussied up however they choose, and auctioned off for a good cause. 2019’s Canvas4Kids benefit will raise funds for Powered To Move, which helps special needs and wheelchair bound children by providing individual and group fitness classes to kids with disabilities.

Participating in the auction are greats like Lee Ann Womack, who adorned her skull with a flower arrangement, Ray Wylie Hubbard who took to his skull with a bunch of “Screw You, We’re From Texas” stickers. Cody Braun of Reckless Kelly gave his skull a peacock paint job, and Matt Hillyer chose the Yellow Rose of Texas as his inspiration. Other participants include Zane Williams, Delbert McClinton, actor turned country star Kiefer Sutherland, Foo Fighter turned country performer and podcaster Chris Shiflett, and Dallas Cowboys football safety Kavon Frazier.

There’s many more where those came from, and they can all be seen at Mercedes Benz of McKinney, and bid on by CLICKING HERE. The auction ends on December 16, 2019 5:00 pm Dallas time.

If you’re looking for a unique memento from one of your favorite artists or a Christmas gift for someone that’s got everything, this might be a good option.
