Turnpike Troubadours Announce New Tour, Launch Album Pre-Order

It’s been a week for the Turnpike Troubadours, that’s for sure. They inadvertently announced their new album A Cat in the Rain on Wednesday (5-3) via a leak on their website, and released their first new song in six years “Mean Old Sun” on Friday. But they aren’t done yet. We finally have the full details of the new album along with physical pre-orders, and a butt load of new tour dates to coincide with all of the other Turnpike news.

The Turnpike Troubadours have been spending the late part of 2022 and the early part of 2023 trying to graduate to an arena act. They were pretty successful when it comes to their home turf of Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Arkansas, and Texas. But the band met their Waterloo when they booked Washington DC’s Capitol One Arena.

The DC show was supposed to happen today, Friday May 5th—the same day they were supposed to announce the new album. Neither of those things went as planned. But that doesn’t mean that Turnpike still isn’t on fire and may not end up in arenas coast to coast eventually. For now though, the band appears to be willing to take a more measured approach for their touring schedule.

They’re still playing the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Nebraska in August, which definitely resides in Red Dirt country, as well as some bigger amphitheaters and major festivals throughout the tour. But they’ve also booked out the Ryman Auditorium for two nights, and Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth for three, making sure to still serve their fans those intimate experiences arenas just can’t provide. They’re also coming to DC. It’s just at The Anthem as opposed to Capitol One.

Turnpike will also be bringing along a rather kick ass set of openers that includes Katilin Butts, Hayes Carll, Pony Bradshaw, Lance Roark, Miles Miller, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Muscadine Bloodline, Blackberry Smoke, Morgan Wade, Jason Boland, The Avett Brothers, and more.

One of the bummers about the early leak of the new Turnpike album info is that physical pre-orders weren’t ready to present when the internet was all abuzz. But now they are, and fans can take advantage of CDs and vinyl, including four exclusive colored vinyl editions of A Cat in the Rain.

Pre-order CD from Turnpike
Pre-order Vinyl from Amazon
Pre-order Navy Marble Vinyl from Turnpike
Pre-Order Opaque Tan Vinyl from local record store

A Cat in the Rain was produced by Shooter Jennings at the FAME Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and Dave’s Room in Los Angeles. It will be released on August 25th.

Tickets for new Turnpike Troubadours shows go on sale Friday, May 12 at 10:00 am local time.
