Tyler Childers Signs Global Publishing Deal

Tyler Childers has signed a global publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music Nashville. Separate from his label deal with Sony’s RCA Records in partnership with his own imprint Hickman Holler Records, this publishing deal is to represent his original songs in publishing opportunities specifically.

The primary benefit to artists signing a publishing deal is to get their music placed in movies, films, television shows, streaming series, and other outlets. The boost in exposure can be important for songwriters, especially ones who aren’t regularly featured on mainstream radio like Tyler Childers. Artists such as Sturgill Simpson and Jason Isbell have signed similar high-profile deals in the past.

“Nashville is home to world-class songwriters and Tyler is undoubtedly one of the best,” said Ben Vaughn, President & CEO of Warner Chappell Music Nashville. “His poignant words do what great music can do—move us, invite self-reflection, and spark conversations.”

Tyler Childers has become one of the most successful country music artists in modern history that doesn’t receive regular mainstream radio play. He has now earned two Certified Gold records for the songs “Whitehouse Road” and “Lady May,” a Platinum certification for the song “Feathered Indians,” and his 2017 album Purgatory was Certified Gold on December 8th, 2020.

The 3 1/2-year-old Purgatory also came in at #19 on Billboard’s year-end 2020 chart, beating out albums such as Luke Bryan’s new album released in 2020, Born Here Live Here Die Here, and Florida Georgia Line’s latest album, 2019’s Can’t Say I Ain’t Country. No longer is the excitement for independent releases relegated to the debut week. Tyler Childers and Purgatory have proved to have incredible staying power. The album was again at #17 on the Billboard Country Albums chart this week.

In total, Purgatory has now sold 687,950 total albums factoring in both physical sales and streaming equivalents, with the songs from the album regularly receiving between 7 and 8 millions streams per week. Tyler’s more recent album, 2019’s Country Squier, has sold 282,871 albums sold so far. Now Warner Chappell Nashville will attempt to leverage that appeal in new opportunities.

Tyler Childers also released a surprise album called Long Violent History in 2020. All proceeds from the album go to the Hickman Holler Appalachian Relief Fund, which Childers and his wife and performer Senora May established to raise awareness and money for philanthropic efforts in the Appalachian Region.
