Whitey Morgan to Play The Mother Church of Country Music

One of the ways that you can distinguish when an independent artist is finding worthy traction and wide reception for their music is when they receive a berth to play the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Known affectionately as the Mother Church of Country Music, it’s the original home of the Grand Ole Opry, and one of the most revered and hallowed concert halls in the world.

Joining artists such as Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, Margo Price, and Cody Jinks, now Michigan native, California convert, and hard-charging traditional country artist Whitey Morgan and his backing band The 78’s have been bestowed the opportunity to play the Mother Church this summer. The show will be on August 25th, and will feature openers Alex Williams, and Tennessee Jet.

Originally from Flint, Michigan, Whitey Morgan first started hitting the road in 2005, and quickly established himself as one of the most energetic performers in the underground. For a decade, Whitey Morgan and 78’s logged more miles, and played more shows that most any outfit in country music or beyond. After a short period on Bloodshot Records, Whitey Morgan released 2015’s Sonic Ranch, named for the famous recording complex just outside of El Paso, TX where the record was cut. A new album from Whitey is expected at some point later in 2018.

It has been a slow and steady rise for Whitey Morgan over many years. As other independent country artists have begun to receive wider recognition, so has Whitey, who aside from a few others in the underground, surpasses many in time served in the service of country music.

Tickets for Whitey Morgan at the Ryman Auditorium will go on sale Friday, July 29th at 10AM.
