Newest Additions to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#20)

There’s just something about certain artists and songs where it only takes a few seconds into a track before a smile cracks across your face, and you immediately know, “This is what I mean when I say country music.” Many had that feeling when they feasted their ears on the self-titled, full-length debut from Texas country artist Randall King released April 27th. His song “Takin’ Me a Heartbreak” leads the newest additions to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist.
When you have a unreleased Keith Whitley song emerge by an artist as authentic as Kayla Ray, it begs to be added to the playlist. “Once A Week Cheaters” recorded with Colton Hawkins from Kayla’s new album Yesterday and Me also make the list of latest additions, as does “Wild, Reckless and Crazy” from Darci Carlson‘s new self-titled release.
Old Crow Medicine Show‘s new album Volunteer is going criminally overlooked in a bust month for new releases. They re-enter the Top 25 Playlist with a blazing instrumental, “Elzick’s Farewell.” And since Sarah Shook and the Disarmers continue to dominate everyone’s early picks for one of the best records of 2018 so far, she maintains two slots on the playlist, with the juicy chorus and melody of “Over You” just added.
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist primarily lives on Spotify, but is also available for those who use Google Play, and now on Apple Music thanks to Country Exclusive. For those who don’t stream, you can still find the song recommendations in list form below.

I’d recommend “Tell Me” by Parker Millsap. While Parker has been primarily acoustic and him going electric for his new album Other Arrangements feels like a smaller version of Dylan stepping out with a strat for the first time, and that this track is more blues than anything, his Americana roots vibe is still alive and well and the guy’s Robert Plant/Rod Stewart/second coming of Jeff Buckley voice is too good to ignore.

Somewhat disappointed on first listen of album. Went down better the second time.
May 7, 2018 @ 11:07 am
Completely agree. It’s no Very Last Day, but it’s got some highlights, like that one.
May 7, 2018 @ 12:40 am
I think it’s worth pointing out that the site refreshed about 97 times while I was updating this 🙂 good to see some Darci Carlson!
May 7, 2018 @ 4:57 am
I think you should make multiple playlists or make this one longer
May 7, 2018 @ 5:25 am
I 2nd what Angelo has said. A longer playlist would be great!
May 7, 2018 @ 8:15 am
This playlist has a very specific purpose, which is to drive traffic and interest to very specific songs, artists, and albums, and has been effective in that manner. If it was any longer, it would lose its exclusivity, and effectiveness. More playlists is a greater possibility, but only if they’re effective in a desired manner, and don’t take away from this one.
May 7, 2018 @ 10:47 am
Trigger I’m more of a “purchase the songs on the playlist than streaming” but do some only live on Spotify? For instance a while back you had this song on the list: Jason Link – Evolution. I never did find that song to purchase on Amazon, iTunes or anywhere else and still can’t to this day. Now on the current playlist is Dakota Jay – Don’t Come to Nashville, and it appear to be the same way. Do you know where I can get these two songs other than streaming?
May 7, 2018 @ 10:56 am
Yes, the Jason Link song was only on Spotify, though I believe he’s planning to do a proper release sometime soon. Some songs are only on Spotify, but the vast majority are available everywhere, or are leading singles to albums about to be released.
May 7, 2018 @ 11:25 pm
I’m not sure I would use the term “exclusive” to describe a list of songs that includes Pardi, The Oakridge Boys, and Joshua Hadley.

Lucky him by shotgun rider has been on my playlist ever since it came out.
Shame that’s is not on SCM’s playlist
May 7, 2018 @ 8:23 am
I may review the Shotgun Rider album at some point. The problem with adding a song from that album is folks will hear it, then pull up the record and wonder why I’m recommending Keith Urban music to them. They’ve got some really solid traditional-style country on that record, but they’ve also got a lot of really contemporary styled songs that will immediately turn folks off, like the opening track.
May 7, 2018 @ 3:17 pm
Fair enough
But the first song aside, however contemporary the non traditional tunes are, is decent imo. Would rather here shot gun rider on the radio than Keith urban and his pop bollocks
Love the steel throughout the entire album
May 7, 2018 @ 8:52 am
Love that song Tom or how about something off the new josh ward album..
May 7, 2018 @ 7:29 am
No new Keith Urban?…
May 7, 2018 @ 8:54 am
Any songs from Port Saint Joe almost make the cut?
May 7, 2018 @ 10:59 am
I may if they release the right single. The mainstream tracks I usually put here are singles that are trying to climb the charts like the Ashley McBryde and Jon Pardi songs.
May 7, 2018 @ 9:47 am

Thank you for keeping this list up to date in Apple Music!
May 7, 2018 @ 3:56 pm
Any chance Paul Cauthen’s new one makes the list? Also, though it’s a 2017 album, you’d figure at least one of Tyler Childers’s songs off of Purgatory would still be on the list, especially if songs off of Pardi’s much older album are still there.
May 7, 2018 @ 5:04 pm
“Whitehouse Road” from Childers was on here for eternity. The reason Pardi and Ashley McBryde’s songs remain here is because they’re current radio singles trying to climb the charts and need all the help they can get. And they certainly won’t be receiving it from the major streaming playlists.
May 9, 2018 @ 11:54 pm
Love the song Once a Week Cheaters. Old school country and what country should still be today. These two have a very blessed gift of being able to sing. Would love to hear more from these two
May 13, 2018 @ 7:33 am
Oil and Opium off the “new” Hellbound Glory. Great song!
May 17, 2018 @ 5:58 pm
I’m loving this list! While a few names are familiar, most are new to me, and I’m finding much to love here. Thank you!
