The Turnpike Troubadours at Cowboys (A Photo Blog)
There’s no stopping the Turnpike Troubadours. The mainstream country music industry may continue to turn a blind eye to their regional and national success, but that won’t slow them down at all. As they continue to put on one of the most engaging live shows in country music, the crowds at their shows continue to swell, and the venues they can fill to capacity continue to grow.
During a recent run of shows in Texas that included their first headlining gig at ACL Live in Austin on Friday with American Aquarium, and a sold out show at the House of Blues in Houston on Sunday, the Turnpike Troubadours stopped by the cavernous Cowboys venue in San Antonio on Saturday night (12-18) and played an electric show to a capacity crowd. Once again Saving Country Music surrogate Brad Coolidge of Bradford Coolidge Photography was on site to take some amazing photos he was gracious enough to share with us all.

Their talent was obvious to me the very first time I saw them almost six years ago. It’s been a thrill and a privilege to watch the growth in their audience, their stage presence, and showmanship these past few years. Every success that comes their way is richly deserved.

These cats are the real deal. I’ve seen them in Atlanta 3 times, and every time they have had to book a bigger and bigger venue. The words out in the South East as well except for nashville of course.

They are the best live. I’ve seen them this year in sold out venues in Indiana and Illinois. It seems the whole nation is catching on.

I got to see these guys play in fargo this past summer, being from Canada it’s always great when amazing bands with no mainstream attention come close to the border. Worth the trip the concert put on by the boys was one hell of a time and an experience I would never trade in or will forget. Keep up the amazing work and never change you guys rock

I remember remember watching them play at the Mercury Lounge all the time here in Tulsa years ago. It’s so awesome to watch them grow over time. Can’t wait to see them two nights in a row at the Caine’s Ballroom at the end of the month.

Awesome pictures!
I’ve been a fan of their music for years. However, remarkably, I’ve never seen them in concert! They never come around my area. The closest they played was somewhere in Maryland a few years ago. I’m going to have to hit the road to see them.

My wife and i saw them last night at house of blues Houston, for our 12 anniversary . We were right up front center stage, the place was packed. Everyone sang every song, we had a great time. The crowd was mostly a little more from the upper class, designer purses ect…. but they were the.most courteous concert crowd I have ever seen. One weird thing, nearly all the guys dressed and looked the same. Big beard perfectly maintained and a Columbia sweater vest, it was kind of odd. They all looked like Ryan Bingham from that campfire YouTube video. But we all loved the same music so I won’t be discourteous.
Any way turnpike, as the entire crowd referred to them were amazing. This was the best concert I have ever been to, and one of the greatest experiences of my life. My wife loved them, we had a blast. They changed the way I think about music, mine and theirs. This is a must if they come to.your town. I have to thank trigger because he is the one who first introduced me to turnpike Troubadours. Also their opener Dalton Domino, was awesome, he had a real whiskey Myers type sound without sounding like a carbon copy, plus he was very approachable, spoke to him after the show and he was really cool.
Yeah, this is happening, they are going up. I will agree with whoever said best band on the planet, this is currently true.

My wife and I saw them at Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh a month or so back. North Carolina crowds are hit or miss with knowing good Red Dirt music (I have been in venues with maybe 15 other people recently to see Adam Hood, Jason Eady, Cody Canada, etc.), but the place was completely packed on a weeknight and everyone was singing and dancing. One of the most electric shows I have ever seen!

Planning to travel from Australia next year primarily to see these guys in the flesh. If luck holds, maybe a little side dish of Dwight Yoakam to round out the perfect musical experience.

Saw their album release show for Goodbye Normal Street at Gruene almost 5 years ago. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Can’t believe it’s been that long. Love them.
