Wayne Hancock Jams w/ Brian Setzer (+Tony Locke)
Okay first the bad news.
For those that did not catch wind of this yet, last week there was some drama in Wayne “The Train” Hancock’s band. Long story short, Wayne’s guitarist Izzy Zaidman assaulted his steel player, Tony Locke, and Tony Locke was hurt really bad. Izzy was kicked out of the band, Tony is back home recovering, and the greatness of Eddie Biebel met up with Wayne on the road to cover the leads.
That is all there really is to know.
But unfortunately a bunch of MySpacers and the Austin 360 Blog had to make a big sensationalized story out of it by posting a bunch of he said, he said bullshit, and a rather gruesome picture of Tony Locke after the incident.
Sure, people have a right to know what happened, but everything that happened I just spelled out in a few sentences. In my opinion people should be way more respectful to the parties involved than to run with a bunch of conjecture and back and forths between the parties, and then have the parties need to feel like they have to respond when people get the facts wrong and the whole thing snowballs into a bunch of adolescent dribble.
There’s a dude laid up from being assaulted, and Wayne, who was touting that his new release Viper of Melody featured the same band you would see live, is looking for new band members. This is a tragedy, and respect should be shown to the people involved. Leave the investigating and finger pointing to the po po, and leave all the drama and gossip for pop country and People Magazine.
For those interested, Mike Neer just set up a fund to help pay for Tony Locke’s medical bills and lost wages. You can donate by CLICKING HERE. My cheap, broke ass even threw a few bones in that bucket, so if you got a few bucks, do what you can to help out a great musician who’s down on his luck.
But the Train will roll on !!!
In fact on the 24th, Wayne was caught jamming with none other than the great Brian Setzer in Minneapolis. Check it out:
Man, I would’ve killed to be there.
Great to see Eddie Biebel back with Wayne as well!
Is there anyone with more cred in the world of retro music than Brian Setzer? The man deserves his own wing in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame if you ask me.
Don’t forget, Wayne Hancock will be on Outlaw Radio this Tuesday at 9 PM Central! Don’t miss it! But if you do, you can catch that show, and all Outlaw Radio shows on the Outlaw Radio page on savingcountrymusic.com the next day.

Could it be Wayne Hancock is lying. Could it possibly be that Wayne knows the truth and is trying to save his record label from a lawsuit by a bully and his family? Is he trying to save his own ass? It’s his band and he should take complete responsibility for letting the situation get out of hand. Why would someone just cold cock a roommate and a bandmate .. bigger and stronger than himself .. for what reason.. could it be that Tony was pushing people around, pushed the wrong man on the wrong night and lost a fair fight? Wayne knows the answer .. Izzy never sucker punched anyone .. he is a mild mannered guy, and Wayne is shooting off his mouth and never saw the incident .. or did he? He has as many stories as Tony does .. hey .. you push people around .. expect the worst.

Really?? Kicking someone in the head enough to leave the damage Izzy did to Tony’s head and ribs is what you consider a fair fight? Just as you pointed out, Tony is bigger and stronger than Izzy, which is exactly why Izzy would cold cock him from behind. He was probably afraid to fight him face to face. My understanding is that Izzy did not have a scratch on him after the attack, and certainly would not have been able to play the gig he played the very next night. His hands would have been bruised, scratched and sore if he had done that damage with his fists- and a fair fight is done with fists, not steel toe boots to someones head while they are down.
From what I have read from people who were at the gig the night of the attack, your “mild mannered” Izzy was the one who was belligerent. He was rude to the wait staff and to Wayne’s fans. The only thing I read about Tony’s behavior at the club that night was that he was polite and nice, as usual. Not to mention, it really doesn’t matter what Tony may have said to Izzy or if he was a total dick to Izzy, it still doesn’t warrant what Izzy did to Tony.
You probably don’t know Tony, but if you did you would know he is not the type to push people around. Can all of the people across the nation who have been horrified by what happened to Tony be wrong. They would not be as horrified if Tony were a jerk- but Tony is actually a really good guy and certainly did not deserve this.
Fortunately, it seems that most people do not define a fair fight the same way you do or this society would be in a lot worse trouble.
I am not really sure what you are trying to imply about Wayne. A cover up? That’s just nonsensical.

J, your story doesn’t make sense. Repeated kicks around the eyes and cheekbones with “steel toe boots” would lead to broken bones. Sure, Tony’s picture isn’t pretty, but getting your ass kicked never is. His story sounds like every other tough guy’s story about getting his ass kicked – “he sucker punched me.” Sure, Tony might be bigger and stronger, but that doesn’t mean he knows how to fight. Izzy is a scrawny white kid from one of the toughest neighborhoods in New York – you can bet he knows how to throw a punch.
And how do you know Izzy’s hands weren’t sore the next night? He not the first guy to get in a fist fight one night and play a gig the next.

The only reason Tony did not get broken bones is because he must have some hard bones. I doubt many of us would have come away with no broken bones after such a beating. I saw Tony the other day and he still has a black eye- 2 months later.
There is absolutely no question that Izzy kicked Tony with his boots- Tony doesn’t remember much after he was knocked unconscious, but he does remember coming to briefly while he was on the ground and saw Izzy kicking him and thought that if Izzy didn’t stop soon he was going to die. Not to mention Izzy has been heard talking about how he was kicking Tony in the head. The fact that Izzy was kicking him with his boots, which happed to be steel toe- cannot be debated.
I have known Tony and the other people involved in this incident for a long time, which has allowed me to be much more in the know about the facts of that night. Tony is not a “tough guy”. He is not perfect, but as one person put it, it doesn’t matter if Tony “pissed on Izzy’s head” he didn’t deserve to be assaulted like that. Izzy may seem like a scrawny vegan wanna-be-peace lover, but he has shown a dark side that people should be wary of.
By the way- Tony originally comes from a pretty tough neighborhood in LA. He knows how to throw a punch as well but he is more proud to say he knows when to walk away when things are looking out of control- which is what he was trying to do that night. It is just too bad he turned his back on Izzy while trying to do so…
