Alan Jackson Cancels Remaining August Tour Dates Due to Illness
This story has been updated.
Country Music Hall of Famer Alan Jackson has canceled his remaining August tour dates due to an undisclosed illness, affecting shows at the Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia for Thursday, August 16th, as well as Friday’s August 17th show at the the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion in Gilford, New Hampshire. Lee Ann Womack was scheduled to open the New Hampshire show.
“Tonight’s performance by Alan Jackson at Wolf Trap has been cancelled due to illness. We will provide information on a rescheduled performance date and/or refunds as it becomes available,” organizers said Thursday morning. “The singer-songwriter had fully planned to perform tonight – his trucks, band and crew are already onsite at the venue. Wolf Trap sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused by the cancellation.”
At the moment, both shows are being labeled “postponed” by the Alan Jackson camp, looking to be rescheduled in the future. Alan Jackson is in his second year of his current “Honky Tonk Highway” tour, with four more performances scheduled in September before the tour wraps.
According to concertgoers at other recent shows, Alan Jackson was also complaining about feeling ill, including his show at the CMAC Arts Center in Canandaigua, NY on Friday, August 10th. No word on the nature of Alan Jackson’s illness, or when the canceled tour dates may be rescheduled. More information when it has been confirmed.
Alan Jackson released a new song called “The Older I Get” in October 2017 to coincide with his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and as the first single from a new album.

When Alan performed at CMAC RECENTLY, HE SAID DURING HIS PERFORMANCE THAT HE HAD NOT BEEN FEELING WELL FOR A FEW DAYS……IMGUESSMIT CAUGHT UP WITH HIM. IT APPEARED THAT HE WAS HAVING PAIN WHEN HE WALKED INTO THE BACK OF THE STAGE.

We saw him in Pittsburgh in late March. We have seen him 50 times in his great career. I told my husband when he walked off stage he seemed to be limping and babying his hip. I thought maybe it was bothering him pretty good.

I saw him last Friday (the 10th) in Canandaigua, NY. He told us then he was ill and almost cancelled that show. While I’m thankful he didn’t, I hope he’s alright. Truthfully nothing seemed out of the ordinary until he played “Country Boy” which he forgot the words to. 15 songs in during “Don’t Rock the Jukebox,” that’s when he told us about the illness. Like I said, I thought he did well and feel bad he went on just for us.
In other news, he only said “The Older I Get” “may or may not be on a new album eventually” and that was it.

Yup. For all you know he has a sinus infection. You must be part of the ‘Perpetually Offended’ movement. How is that working out for you?

And is there any middle ground somewhere in here, between being self-centered and perpetually offended?

I asked if he had a new album coming out. Grow up and deal with it.

Oh I’m sorry did I offend you?
Reads a story about someone who Is ill and has to cancel at least 2 weeks of shows. On a post where over 20 people’s natural reaction is “oh no, get better, you’re in our thoughts and prayers,” they say “Any word on a new album?” Gets called out on it but blames those people for not being grown ups and being perpetually offended.
Well played….clearly you’re the adult here, and need to be entertained, after all.

I pray Alan will recover from whatever is wrong with him. Last concert of his we went to was last year in St. Charles, Mo. He was limping then, hope he takes as much time he needs to recover. He is my favorite singer, love how he stays to his roots. Fan of Alan’s forever.

My sons and I were in Vienna Virginia Yesterday evening, having taken off work and traveled to the area early in order to be at Wolf trap in plenty of time to celebrate your music with you and each other. We were stunned to learn that you were too ill to perform. You and your music have impacted our lives tremendously and we hope and pray for your well-being. One can only imagine how hard it must be on you to keep up the rigorous schedule and always have to be on top of your game. Please take time to rest. Your fans will be here for you when you are ready for them.
