Bob Wayne Signs w/ Century & New Album
Probably the best pure songwriter in underground country, one Bob Wayne, has announced that he has signed with the record label Century Media, and will be releasing an album through them called From The Camper to The Cadillac.
“I just turned in the album and it sounds killer. All my other CD’s–‘Blood To Dust’ was kinda a fluke, we just did it for fun, I didn’t really know what I was doing. At that point I was just techin’ for Hank III and those guys helped me out. And ’13 Truckin’ Songs,’ we just kinda threw that one together too. ‘Driven By Demons’ we kinda took our time on but most of that we recorded in the motorhome behind clubs. The songs were there, but this record we actually had money and time.
“I did it with Andy (Gibson) but we actually took our time, and actually revisited some of the old songs that were kinda half-assed recorded. So we re-visited some of the old greats, and there’s some new ones on there too. And the old ones are WAY better sounding, so it’s gonna be awesome, but its not coming out till February, because they need time to press.”
“I would’ve never went with them (Century) if I didn’t already have some family roots with them. I have some close friends and stuff that work there, and that’s how it all kind of happened.
Bob Wayne made his announcement on Outlaw Radio’s 100th Episode, where you can hear the rest of Bob’s interview, as well as words from many other artists who called in to congratulate Jashie P on #100.
Previously it had been announced that Joe Buck singed with Century, but it sounds like that might be up in the air. We still might see his Demon in My Head CD, but it may not be released by Century.
Another good nugget from Outlaw Radio Episode 100 was that Jayke Orvis, Rachel Brooke, and James Hunnicutt are planning a tour together. Stay tuned.

This is excellent news trigg. I’m glad they got the funds together to capture their sound better in the studio, and w/andy gibson producing its sure to impress. February can’t come soon enough….

He was pretty harsh on his other albums. Yeah they’re a little rough, but I love Driven by Demon and Blood to Dust. 13 Truckin’ Songs is the album where the bad production drags it down. Better sounding songs will be nice, but the better exposure is really what gets me excited about this. Bob’s music deserves it.

GREAT news! I dig all of his albums no matter the audio quality (which is actually quite all right for me), but this could really give his “career” a boost it deserves. I saw him twice here in Germany and both times he was fantastic and a nice fella.
Cheers,

Didn’t Zach Shedd and Daniel Mason played on this too? I think so but I may be mistaken….

You might be right Declared. He didn’t say that in the interview, but when he mentioned Andy, the way he kind of says it implies that he was using all the Hank III guys. This would make sense, since they would all be around to do it. Wonder if Chris Scruggs and Donnie Herron will appear on it as well. I can remember getting my first Bob Wayne CD, and being blown away that Chris and Donnie were on it, and Andy had recorded it. It’s all one big family.

Yeah. This is pretty great too! I like the roughness of his old stuff, it just makes his songwriting shine brighter.

Bob Wayne has a sinister sense of humor and I like him cause he’s a true talent and he don’t have to pretend that he’s an outlaw cause he just is.He’s alread paid his dues and he lives his music like an artist is supposed to.

BOB IS DEFINATELY THE REAL DEAL..HE WRITES A LOT OF GOOD SONGS..I THINK HE IS LIKE HANK III WHEN DESCRIBING HIS OWN MUSIC..HE IS A LITTLE HARD ON HIMSELF..THE FUCKER CAN MAKE ALL KINDS OF SOUNDS COME OUT OF HIS MOUTH..THAT SONG ON THE COMPILATION CD WAS KICK ASS!!!

Big Plopper,
I’ve done about as much digging through the Underground country scene as one can do, and I’ll hold “27 Years,” “Blood to Dust,” “Reptile,” “Final Walk” and others up against any other underground artists’ songs. He may not be the best well-rounded musician, the best performer, the best picker, but when it comes to putting pen to paper he’s one of the best. That doesn’t have to come across as an insult to any other artist. You may disagree and that’s fine, we all have different tastes.
So if you think someone beats him out, name names. Show your hand speed racer.

Bob deserves a record-deal, and I look forward for the cd, but if he would record all of his future cds himself and burn them in his camper…. I would buy them all. His songs are so good that I don’t really care about the production. And on stage he gives his songs the best possible performance. It comes from the heart, and that’s all that really matters.

Maybe the bigplopper doesn’t understand the struggles of a “Workin’ Man” That songs speaks to the people better than the pop country drivel that is churned out for what? To keep the Nashville machine well oiled, that’s what. uggggg !!!

names don’t mean nothing…. it is just stupid to try and say one guy is the “best” plus how much of that is kinda forced….

I would say Wayne Hancock certainly writes songs that are more fun to listen to. But when I think of a pure “songwriter,” I think of someone who is putting pen to paper, a poet, a storyteller, and with this approach, I think Bob Wayne is one of the best. You might be right that it is stupid to say one guy is the “best” but this is my opinion. I used that term to emphasize the degree of his talent, to attempt to communicate to people that this is someone they should take seriously for his songwriting ability. It is assumed this is my opinion, and it should be taken as such.

Zebulon Whately (Sons Of Perdition) is probably better than Bob Wayne. Ole Zeb uses enough metaphors and obscure words that you have to think a while to figure out what he’s saying. Bob’s stuff tells a story real good, but it’s pretty much staightforward, plain english.

and does he really sing so much or just talk over the music, and wayne hancock’s songs are some the most depressing and real stuff goin’….not all “fun to listen too”…. and what about “working man” how old is BW, is he 30 something, talk to me when he is 50, i sense a bit of that it is forced, that’s all.

That is awesome, it makes me happy to hear that, well the way he made his first albums has its charm as well and they sound great when I listen to the cd’s, I have them all, including the live cd, I think, but I am happy for him if he signed with a good record label and Century sounds like he will go on for long with his music, Good Luck to Bob Wayne and The Outlaw Carnies!
