Alan Jackson Will Not Reschedule Canceled Tour Dates, Misses ACM Honors
Some fans are growing more concerned about the health of Country Music Hall of Famer Alan Jackson afterΒ ticket holders were notified his recently-canceled tour dates will not be rescheduled, and instead patrons are being offered refunds for the dates. But the country legend says he’s recovering from a respiratory infection and will be back to normal soon.
Alan Jackson canceled his remaining August tour dates last week due to what was an undisclosed illness at the time, affecting shows at the Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia for Thursday, August 16th, as well as Fridayβs August 17th show at the the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion in Gilford, New Hampshire. At first the venues were telling ticket holders to stay tuned for rescheduled dates, but now both venues are saying there will be no performances.
“Alan Jacksonβ’s performance at Wolf Trap has been cancelled due to illness. Unfortunately, the performance will not be rescheduled at Wolf Trap this summer,” promoters in Virginia told the public on August 22nd. Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion issued a similar statement, saying “Due to limited scheduling availability, we are unable to secure a make-up date with Alan Jackson for the 2018 season. Every effort is being made to reschedule his return in 2019. Refunds are currently being processed.”
Alan Jackson’s trucks, crew, and band all arrived at the Wolf Trap in Virginia on August 16th, fully expecting a performance. It was canceled midday after it was determined Alan Jackson was too ill to perform. According to concertgoers at other recent shows, Alan Jackson was also complaining about feeling ill, including his show at the CMAC Arts Center in Canandaigua, NY on Friday, August 10th. The exact illness Alan Jackson was suffering from was undisclosed, but he did release a statement on Thursday (8-24) saying that he is continuing to recover from a respiratory infection, citing it as the reason he missed the ACM Honors presentation at the Ryman Auditorium Wednesday night (8-22).
At the 12th Annual ACM Honors, Alan Jackson was scheduled to be one of the guests of honor. Jackson was being awarded the the Cliffie Stone Icon Award as part of the gala. Hosted by Jon Pardi and Lauren Alaina, the event opened with Pardi and Alaina singing Alan Jackson’s 1990 hit “Chasin’ That Neon Rainbow.” George Strait also made a video for Jackson that played during the presentation. The evening closed with Chris Stapleton singing “Here in the Real World” in tribute to Jackson. In his stead, Jackson’s daughter Mattie Jackson Selecman accepted the Cliffie Stone Icon Award.
“Just want to thank everybody at the ACMs for honoring me with the Cliffie Stone Award,” Alan Jackson said in a statement. “I’m sorry I couldn’t be there to personally accept it … And most of all thank you to all my fans for their prayers and well wishes as I continue to recover from a respiratory infection. I’m on the mend and will be back to normal soon!”

Even during his concert at CMAC he told us he was originally going to cancel. He said if we didn’t feel like we were getting a good show to ask for a refund from him. He was quite serious too.
Don’t know what to say other than I hope he gets better soon.

He is quite the real deal and doesn’t let his ” larger than life” stigma get in the way of his sincerity. We need people like him to show new artists what country music really is.God bless and all hopes for a speedy recovery.

any time I read bad news about the legends I get over-anxious .
for them , certainly , but also for the music they continue to honour . COUNTRY music .
saw him several years ago and was never so blown away by an artist’s appreciation for and commitment to his fans….and the music , of course . it was a long show and included a sit-down acoustic spot . if he missed any ‘ must-do’ songs I sure didn’t notice . he was nothing but gracious , giving and ” right on the money ‘ vocally ..and the audience here in Canada was given a night they will never forget as I’m sure all of his audiences are . it doesn’t get more real than AJ in these times . so looking forward to new material and , hopefully , seeing another show
best wishes to the man for a quick recovery .

I love Alan Jackson, I have loved him since he first started. I was so lucky to see him a few years ago. He was so great. I’m so glad he will be OK. He is real country, like johnny cash and George strait.

Traveling to different places with different temperatures, doing interviews and meeting people takes a toll on his voice and body. I hope he’s back to his amazing self soon.

Hopefully Alan will be okay, I am sure he will be since I am sure he is getting Grade A medical attention. Sad news for the fans of his that will miss out on seeing him perform, hopefully he will swing through those locations once he is up to it and the schedules work. I wonder how much of him not rescheduling these dates has to do with Alan likely wanting to work a reduced schedule and enjoy more downtime? Alan definitely seems like an artist who would be willing to book less dates and ride the bus less if it meant spending more time at home. He never seemed someone totally thrilled/enamored with the idea of 200+ dates a year and I suspect as he has gotten older that desire has declined more as well.
