Eric Church Is Getting Ready to Debut a New Single
The last time we heard new music from Eric Church, it was when he unexpectedly dropped Mr. Misunderstood by surprise on the same night of the 2015 CMA Awards, which was now over 2 1/2 years ago. Giving thousands of copies away to folks in his fan club, and stripping back his songs to just a few players worked out well for Church both commercially and creatively. The record won Album of the Year at the CMA Awards the next year, and eventually was Certified Gold by the RIAA. But it’s been well over a year since he released a single, and his fans have been getting antsy.
Now word is Eric Church is prepping a new song for radio and fans, and buzz from multiple radio sources has the new single arriving on Friday, July 13th. No word on a name, or if it will accompany the announcement of a new album or any other details. Right now those in-the-know are keeping the specifics close to the vest, but whatever it is, it will be much-anticipated by Eric Church’s devoted fans.
The news comes after it was revealed earlier this week that Eric Church’s younger brother Brandon passed away at the age of 36. According to Eric Church’s father, Brandon suffered multiple seizures, and died at his home in Granite Falls, North Carolina on Friday, June 29th. Brandon Church was also a songwriter, and co-wrote songs with Eric, including “How ‘Bout You” from the album Sinners Like Me, and “Without You Here” from Carolina.
“It is with great sadness to confirm that Eric’s brother, Brandon, passed away on Friday evening,” Eric Church said in a statement. “In lieu of flowers we are encouraging everyone to donate to a Scholarship Memorial Fund created on Brandon’s behalf.”
Eric Church is performing this weekend at the 3-day “Country Concert” in Fort Loramie, OH. He’s then off until playing Paso Robles, CA on July 21st.

Would be awesome if he were to debut it live tonight at Country Concert. I’ll be in attendance for that, he’ll bring the house down just like 2 years ago.

Wouldn’t see that being out of the realm of possibility.

I hope that this album is on the same level as Mr. Misunderstood and Chief.

Sinners and Carolina are also awesome. Only The Outsiders is subpar and there are still some great songs
I’ve been listening to Carolina a lot lately.

I agree completely, I only mentioned those two because of how recent they were and I think they were both album of the year winners. Just like you, the outsiders is the only one I am not a fan of.

Whether you think it contrived or not, Eric Church is a badass

Even though his latest batch of singles has been in heavy rotation on country radio, I still really enjoy Mr. Misunderstood. I hope he sticks with the same style of production and songwriting.

Too bad “Knives Of New Orleans” was never released as a single. That would be a great country radio experiment. Best track on the album.

I found it too construed, like a songwriter pretending to be someone he never was.
It starts with the guy wanting to take back what he did, and the the chorus saying he has no regrets. So the emotion isnt consistent, it throws the whole song for me.
Whereas the title track sound real and lifelike.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of Eric, but that track always annoys me. Maybe I am OCD.

I like Eric Church. I do hope though that the new song and eventually the new album will feature some steel and fiddle that have been missing in country music for the last few years.

I’d be happy if it just had the picking from some of his prior releases. “These Boots” made me love the mandolin.

Really surprised that wasn’t released as a single. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the new single either.

In my opinion there are very few that holds standards even close to Eric. Awesome musician, entertainer (which I feel he had deserved), songwriter, father to his boys, and I’m sure an amazing husband. I’ve saw him in concert and at Grand Ole Optus, giving 100% all genuine down to earth Eric!! He simply is the greatest in my eyes!! Bucket list is to meet him just once!!

He didn’t perform it tonight, but he did put on 1 of the greatest shows I’ve ever witnessed live. I think he might have been on Coke too. But that was a performance that will forever be etched in my memory as an absolute highlight. The stage presence was amazing, the emotion was there, and the connection with the crowd was 2nd to none.

I want Eric to return to his “Sinners Like Me” sound. That album was finest.
Anyway, it is about time we got some new music from him.

Thoughts about the “why not me” not being released….one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard…. maybe not appropriate for release under the circumstances…..even if all proceeds went to victims…..there are always questions of motive and accountability

Agreed. Don’t want to come across as opportunistic. However I would say the chances of Church being perceived that way now are less than they were in late 2017.

Now, seeing the news that his brother died of multiple seizures, that is what alcohol withdrawal does, GOD I HATE THIS

It had nothing to due with alcohol withdrawal, what are you talking about? He had a medical issue.

I’ve seen Church 6 times in the past 10 years, best was at The Chelsea in Las Vegas, and in Nashville last year. If you ask me there is no better live act in Country Music.

So did Mr Misunderstood. That’s part of what makes him great. He takes chances….sometimes the don’t work out but most of the time it’s awesome.
