John Prine Birthday to be Marked by “Picture Show” Airing
Saturday, October 10th would have been John Prine’s 74th birthday. The revered songwriting legend passed away on April 7th due to COVID-19. But there will still be plenty of remembering and celebration to mark the occasion.
First and foremost, the Prine family will be re-airing the popular “Picture Show: A Tribute Celebrating John Prine,” which was originally streamed on June 11th and viewed over 500,000 times, while raising over $400,000 for MusiCares and other organizations through generous donations during the free streaming event.
The new airing will include additional footage. Along with featuring memories and songs as well as rare footage of John himself, those who perform or appear include Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, Kacey Musgraves, Brandi Carlile, Vince Gill, Eric Church, Kelsey Waldon, and more. Celebrities that also appear include Bill Murray, Stephen Colbert, and Billy Bob Thorton (see full list below).
“Picture Show: A Tribute Celebrating John Prine” will stream at 7:00 p.m. Central on John Prine’s YouTube channel and via the embedded player below, and will be available through midnight on Sunday, October 11.
Also on Saturday, fans are asked to share their memories of John Prine on social media using the hashtag #IRememberEverything. “I Remember Everything” was Prine’s last recorded song co-written with Pat McLaughlin and produced by Dave Cobb. The song debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Rock Digital Song Sales chart, marking the highest-charting single of Prine’s career as a performer.

Watched the Best Of John Prine on Austin City Limits last night. Interesting seeing him through the years. He might have aged physically but he never lost his lyrical muse. Look forward to watching this too.

I first saw John at the Earl of Old Town in Chicago. I think he had about a dozen songs, just enough for a decent set! He was a huge hit as the Singing Mailman! Loved his music all these many years.
