Vince Gill, Amy Grant & Family to Appear on Grand Ole Opry
For the third week in a row, the Grand Ole Opry will endure through the unprecedented shutdown in American life to offer entertainment to the masses by holding true to it’s tradition of broadcasting on Saturday night (3-28). And for the third week in a row, there will be no audience and no backing band, and the support staff on site will only be a skeleton crew. But the history books will show that even during this most unprecedented episode in American life, the Grand Ole Opry soldiered on with its Saturday night tradition for the 4,917th consecutive time over its 94-year-old history.
Despite strict stay-at-home orders in place in Nashville shuttering all businesses but those deemed essential, Mayor John Cooper has granted the Grand Ole Opry special permission to bring the show live to the world under strict safety protocols. Last week it was Marty Stuart, Brad Paisley, and Vince Gill who provided acoustic entertainment via radio, television, and an online feed. This week Vince Gill returns with wife Amy Grant, along with children Jenny Gill and Corrina Grant Gill as the Opry’s Saturday night entertainment.
“As our city takes necessary public health measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents, the Opry’s Saturday broadcast will be an important reminder to Nashvillians and millions of people around the world that the music will always continue playing in Music City,” says Nashville Mayor John Cooper. “With families sheltered at home across our city we are grateful to have some of our city’s greatest ambassadors—Vince Gill, Amy Grant and members of their family stepping on to the stage Saturday night to lift their spirits,”
The Grand Ole Opry has postponed all Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday night performances for the time being. However, the Opry has vowed to keep the Saturday night tradition going as long as they can. Saturday is the original night the Opry broadcast emanated from WSM in Nashville, and was simulcast all across the country across scores of radio affiliates.
Fans can watch live via the embedded player below, on the new Circle Network via local affiliates of the expanding channel (check availability), or on the Circle Network’s Facebook Page, or on The Circle Network’s YouTube page, or listen via WSM. The presentation begins at 7 p.m. Central.

a couple of minutes of sweethearts of the rodeo (Janis and her sister) added to the show would have really made this fantastic.

I love Vince, but this is pretty lame tonight. I have no interest in hearing Amy or his daughters. They’re not C(c)ountry in the least bit, and not good enough to be interesting.

To King Only off Crackers: If Vince Gill, Amy Grant and their family are not interesting enough for you to watch, THEM DON’T WATCH! And you can leave your snide remarks in the sewer where they belong!! I am so grateful for them to share their talents this Saturday night when our nation is fighting this invisible but deadly infection. They spirits and I’m sure they did so for so many more and uplifted our spirits in these days when our country is being asked to STAY HOME to give our healthcare providers and hospitals the help they need and deserve. As a 69 year old retiree who has been in my house with many health problems , praying that my daughter, who has an impaired immune system & works in a daycare system with 4-5 year old children, I have struggled with even more anxiety and depression & their music was soothing to my soul.

I’m watching and loving it. Believe it or not Vince was the first Country artist I ever listened to when a woman I dated in 1998 was in love with him and turned me on to him. He’ll always be the goods to me.

Really nice that she didn’t make it epic. Even without the high pop, the song stands up. That’s good writing.

I have never been so pleased with Vince Gill and Amy Grant as I have tonight. I watched the show on the television and then downloaded it on the computer. I can’t stop watching. Corinna really did steal the show. Wow was she good. Both daughters really shined. I probably will watch this many times over and over. God Bless Vince and his family for a perfect evening of music.

Couldn’t last past four songs. I’m sure it got better, but come on, this is the Saturday Night Grand Ol’ Opry! Pick it up a little, Vince’s first song was very good, how could it not be? He’s Vince Gill! But the songs Amy and the daughters did remind me of the Sarah McLachlan songs they play when the ASPCA is soliciting donations. Nothing wrong with that either, but it’s the first four songs of the Grand Ol’ Opry on Saturday night!

Just my .02 on some that are saying it was too slow and mellow of a show. Yeah, I get what your saying, we all like some hillbilly stomping, boot scootin’ music and some country burners. Myself included. But…consider the times right now, folks are sick and people are dying of this ridiculous virus and many areas are on a shutdown. Not to mention the economic meltdown. I think the show is reflective of the mood of the day for many. People are needing comfort right now, big time. And that’s what Vince and company delivered. Keep in mind they have to have as few people in the building as possible right now, I think the fact that the Gills are all family made it an easier decision to put them onstage together. This ain’t a normal time right now, when we get back to something resembling normalcy, no doubt The Opry will be back to what you expect. I liked it for what it was.

I don’t think some people appreciate just how exceptional it is that something like this is allowed to continue in the first place. When we look back at this era, the history books will remark how the Grand Ole Opry was one of the few cultural institutions that was allowed to continue.
And by the way, there are a LOT of people paying attention from what I’m seeing. People are tuning into the Opry like they haven’t been for many years.

It is such a unique concert setting, the hallowed empty halls of the Opry ( ok its not the Ryman, but…)
Such a blessing to have these special shows. Last week was amazing and last night was unique and very special.
This is such a time for musicians to share their gifts.
I look forward to next week’s lineup!!
