Miranda Lambert Confirms New Album of “Old Miranda” Coming In Fall
Miranda Lambert has a new album coming, and the word is it will be a return to the old Miranda in large measure. Lambert first let loose information on the new record a couple of weeks ago at CMA Fest, when she said about the new album, “I’ve always used my music for a reflection of where I am in life. Sometimes that’s good, sometimes that’s bad, ugly, who knows. But I kind of just own it at the moment. So this is kind of a record that I needed to make for me. It’s fun, it’s really fun. It’s not all love songs, don’t worry. There’s a few. But it’s got a rock n’ roll edge from spending time in New York City. It’s got this city energy vibe to it. It’s fun and exciting.”
Miranda then went on to debut a new song while making her return to the CMA Fest stage, and her first live appearance in nearly 10 months with the song “Locomotive.” Now ahead of an appearance this weekend at the LakeShake Festival in Chicago where she will headline the festival’s all female Friday lineup, she’s confirmed that a new album is indeed on the way, and fans should expect it to be delivered this fall to coincide with her recently-announced tour.
“I would call it old Miranda, but a Miranda at a whole new level, if that makes any sense,” Lambert tells the Chicago Sun-Times. “It’s not going to be love song overload or anything like that. [Laughs] I made a career on being a rock and roller and I think fans are going to hear that throughout. And yeah, there is this vibe of being happy that goes through this album. I am really, really happy.”
Miranda Lambert has gone through multiple transitions in her career, starting out as more of a hard-edged and plucky performer in her first couple of albums, punctuated with revenge songs, attitude, gunpowder and kerosene. 2009’s Revolution was Lambert finding a more measured mood, with the album’s marquee single “The House That Built Me” becoming her first #1. Four The Record and Platinum were more commercially-oriented, with Lambert bringing in more collaborators and songwriters as opposed to penning most of her own material. This led to the double album and Platinum-selling The Weight of These Wings from 2016, which many consider as Lambert’s “Americana” record, full of more songwriter-oriented material peppered with a few upbeat tunes.
If the new song “Locomotive” is any indication, Miranda Lambert can be taken at her word that the new material will contain more attitude like the Miranda of old. We’ll just have to see if that attitude also comes with songs that either the radio will have any interest in, or that will include the underlying stories and substance that have made Miranda one of the more palatable artists from country’s modern mainstream class.

It comes back to that question of, do you look at a person’s art just for the quality of the art or does their personality figure in as well? For instance, Picasso was an asshole who beat his wife, does that affect your appreciation of his paintings? Same deal with musicians, some very talented people are dysfunctional jerks. Does that matter to you? So Evan Felker is relevant or not depending on your answer to that question.

I’m looking forward to this release. While not every album has worked with me, I will say that her direction has been very interesting to listen to and has produced a nice back catalogue of music over the years.

I’ve tried like hell to like “Platinum,” and there are a few songs on it I enjoy, but overall, it was just a bad album. It didn’t work for me.
I like the rest of her albums, but “Platinum” was just a stinker.

I have to agree and would put “Platinum” down as her worst album. That being said there are some redeeming qualities to that album that cause me to pull it out and listen from time to time. I like all her albums and think she handles a lot of different styles of music very well. She hits a lot more for me than she misses and atleast she is willing to take risks even if they don’t work well.

There is medication out there. Therapy. But I guess you like being bat guano crazy. And Berta, Lambert has had 2 other relationships in the last 3 years. One of them for 2 1/2 years. Shelton and Gwen and the boys are quite happy as well. And don’t need a ring for that. Now go take your meds.

Your wrong,Miranda cheated on Blake and him and Gwen are amazing together let’s keep the topic on Miranda’s music..which in my opinion has been off past few songs just don’t engage me like her others in past albums like “pink sunglasses?” And most of her double CD album sure there is the occasional hit but its definitely a hit or miss

I’m generally pretty lukewarm at best about most contemporary mainstream country, but Miranda Lambert is one big name artist I really like. She knows good songs, whether it’s her own writing or someone else’s and even when she veers into rock or pop territory, she’s got the talent and charisma to pull it off.
I’d point out that the “Americana” thing isn’t confined to The Weight of These Wings, though – she recorded songs by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings and Brandi Carlile on Four the Record.

Can’t wait for the new music. I also like any version of Mi randa’s music. She is #1 to me as a singer songwriter. Years ago her producer wanted her to do an album with just Merle Haggard covers. Instead she had formed the Pistol Annies and recorded with them. I would still like to see ML do that album.

I didn’t even consider going with the women she has opening for her.
I’m embarrassed and she should be too. WTF?!!

Rita Wilson…lmao. Oh man, I’m sure Rita is a good person, but geez the doors that she’s walked thru that were opened because Forrest is her husband is cringe worthy. But I guess she might as well take advantage.
JB, I think the reason Miranda likes to keep a lot of fluff around her is because being a badass is relative. If she were to have opening acts like your girl, Sarah Shook, then people would see how contrived her image really is.

I happened to see the video for what I think is her 1st single, “Me and Charlie Talking” just the other day. Great song, showed a lot of promise. Sadly, her first song was her peak.
Cameron
June 22, 2019 @ 2:47 pm
Her peak?!? That’s a great song but she has had many great songs. All Kinds of Kinds, The House That Built Me, Over You, Tin Man……there are many more.
Miranda is dope as fuck. Y’all out here acting like she’s Cassadee Pope or some shit.

June 22, 2019 @ 2:57 pm

Anyway, I love “the House that Built Me”, but I think the promise she showed in “Me and Charlie Talking” remains unfulfilled.

Well, I’m a forever Miranda Lambert Fan. Have much in common with her haters. She is such a draw, stay busy keeping up with her. If there is a post of Miranda I find it.Altho its hard for me to believe she’s had two relationship in three yrs, SAM! Please don’t put Miranda down like that. Maybe two in three years you know about from those rag magazines. LOL Bring on the new music, Miranda. WE will all be looking forward to it.

For some reason, “Outlaw Music” types like myself and others keep giving ML the benefit of the doubt. I was shocked the Tin Man didn’t get more traction. Incredible song! I actually had a dream last night where she was singing a beautiful song entirely in Spanish. Let’s wait and see how psychic I am.

I think you may be onto something. Maybe somebody is giving Miranda Spanish Fly. That’s why she keeps sleeping with other women’s husbands.

Include me in with those who don’t give a shit about her personal life except in regards to her musical output. Knowing even the smallest amount of info perhaps lets one understand what she writes/sings. But I do think that the success of this next album both commercially and critically will pretty much define where she goes from there. She has had her 10 years or so of great success and perhaps it’s time to wind down (or up) to a career that looks more like those of Emmylou, Lucinda, Rosanne, Crowell, Marty Stuart etc. I see her as someone who keeps making good music without the restraints of Music Row with a loyal following and robust touring.
I would agree with a previous post regarding Platinum. It isn’t a terrible album but it isn’t her best. I will forever believe Revolution, Four the Record and Wings are her best. I do also love the first 2 albums. I am a fan.

Miranda has seen better days as the Willie Nelson song says. Hopefully she will see some again. But this song ain’t it and she’s a certifiable train wreck. When a high % of your fans are holding their breath to see how quick you can f-€k up another relationship instead of to hear your new music, you’re in trouble
