BIG News About Big G’s Texas Roadshow !
I am very happy to announce that Big G’s Texas Roadshow has teamed up with savingcountrymusic.com, and now on Big G’s Page (located on the site’s top gray bar) you can hear Big G’s legendary interviews with big name guests!
And this ain’t Connie Chung interviewing your favorite artists people, oh no. I know a lot of great interviewers, but Big G by far is my favorite. It’s not an interview, it is a conversation. How about spending over an hour with Hank III, or having Dale Watson live in studio talking AND picking, or hearing Big G catch up with his old friend Lucky Tubb from the road?
Well right now you can hear all three, by listening online whenever you want, or downloading it to your favorite trendy audio device. And how much does this cost you? A big ol’ bag of NOTHING!
We haven’t decided exactly when yet, but we will likely be adding new interviews each week as they become available, probably on Wednesdays or Thursdays. I’ll keep you posted, but Big G has bagged a laundry list of the who’s who in independent music to look forward to, people like Unknown Hinson, Tonya Watts, Kinky Friedman, Augie Meyers, and the list goes on and on.
Also, if you want to read about the day I spent hanging out with Big G when I was down in Texas, you can now go to outlawmagazine.com, scroll down a bit and check it out! It is the featured article at the moment, or if you don’t see it, just click on the “Texas” tab.
AND everyone should tune in to revfmradio.com this Friday night (7-31) at midnight Central, where you will hear Big G interview none other than The Triggerman himself, in the flesh! Yeah I know it’s late, but hell it’s a Friday so give the kids some NyQuil, boil a pot of coffee, and make it happen!

The Revolution Rolls On
Maybe too much.
I get emails for people upon occasion saying “Yeah, I hate pop country too, but who cares? Just don’t listen to it if you don’t like it. No need to make such a big deal about it.”
Artists who criticize radio/Nashville country like Hank III and Dale Watson also get criticized, as if their criticism is because they haven’t been able to make it in the business, or that its just a bit to draw attention to themselves.
But to us REAL country fans we see the destruction of things we cherish all around us. It isn’t hypothetical. We do not sniff around in the trash cans of pop country to find its problems, we mind our own business as either casual or hardcore music fans, and we feel like pop country day by day is encroaching on the things we love.
Am I being overdramatic? Maybe. But I’m thinking about the Texas songwriters or the traveling bands out there with amazing talent, that you and me will never hear because they have to struggle in obscurity.
A few weeks after I started Free Hank III, I was contacted by a DJ of a local, independent country station down in the Hill Country of Texas named Big G. I have met so many amazing people through this thing that I feel honored and privileged to call “friends,” and he is one of them.
Big G helped spread awareness about what Curb Records was doing to Hank III, and I became a huge fan of his show. He even interviewed Hank III for over an hour one night. Since his show is in the middle of the night, I never get to listen as much as I want to, but when I do it gives me faith these is still hope out there for REAL country. I even added his independent country station Revolution FM as sponsors for freehank3.org and savingcountrymusic.com.
Well unfortunately around Xmas, Revolution FM decided there was no money in the REAL country market, even in one of country’s strongholds, the Texas Hill Country. So they decided to change formats to Clear Channel-style classic rock, running the same “Journey-O Styx-wagon” tracks that have been run into the ground for years on stations all across the country.
I saw this bulletin from Big G last week:
A shame…With the death of Revolution FM, gone to Classic Rock, (and the listeners and advertisers have grown exponentially) and, of all things, a benefit for Hank Moon because he lost his job,.Poor Hank, maybe he can get a stimulus from “The Big O” . Quit yer bitchin’ and go get a job. Grab your bootstraps, man! Then pull them up.
Thank you Clear Channel for screwing up American Radio, not just in Texas.
I suppose the recession has finally hit our corner of the world. BUT, have no fear, Big G’s Texas Roadshow is STILL here bringing you tried and true Texas music. Unfortunately, in my humble opinion, too many Texas artists were reaching for the “brass” ring they started out avoiding, and their music, and fan base have suffered. Then it it snowballs – if radio stations are not supported, formats will change. Something that started out so cool has gotten rather stale, for the most part…
However, you can still hear the “real” stuff on KOOK 93.5 midnites, and soon to be back streaming on the web at revfmradio. com at the same time…
No offense to classic rock, it has it’s place in the world. But that place can be found at nauseum all over the dial.
It is a good thing The Roadshow has survived, for the most part at least, but this is an excellent example of what is happening all around the country, and it has hit right here at the heart of Free Hank III. Even in a smaller market like Kerrville, TX, independent radio is not safe.
Sure all of us in the know have podcasts and online networks to help us find the music we like, but there is not bigger ambassador for music than the old-fashioned radio.
Slowly but surely radio is becoming all the same, no matter what station you listen to or where. It seems like eventually we’ll just have one station with one type of music. The superstation with the super pop genre.
Sorry, but the choice between Taylor Swift and the Jonas Brothers, is no choice at all.
And if that makes me a whining, out of touch, stick in the mud redneck with a closed mind, so be it.
Luckily the Roadshow rides on for now, and so do I, until the tide turns.
PS: Big G has a great article up in the latest Hill Country Happenings with Ray Price (on page 8).

“I just did 25 shows from coast to coast
Whether wired or tired, I tried to give it my most
And there ain’t no feeling like when a bar gets rowdy and loud
And you can look back and say Luke the Drifter would be proud.
Well getting tight and staying out all night is tough
But no matter how much I drink and dance
I just don’t seem to get enough
And I still got a few more bucks so let’s go another round.
And hold our heads up high cause Luke the Drifter would be proud
Well this worn out guitar and these silly songs
Have gotten nothing me but broke.
I got a worn out gut, a bad attitude
And I’m at the end of my goddamn rope
And I’ve run this old life right in to the ground
But I can look back and say Luke the Drifter would be proud.”

Just When You Thought Tim McGraw Couldn’t Sell Out Any Harder . . .
Be ready for IBWIP’s Episode 22 to be released on Dec. 19th, and Big G just announced that The Roadshow is now going to run Tuesday through Sunday nights. This is good news for us nocturnally-challenged people. I’ve sucked on a few necks in my day, but I’m no vampire, and so the more Roadshows on the weekend nights instead of work nights means more Roadshow for me!
You know, there might be some pop country artist whose music is more objectionable than Timberly McGraw’s (Rascal Flatts, Big & Rich maybe). But it is hard to imagine anyone selling out as hard as this man does. I fell like a broken record about this dude, but I swear if someone approached him to peddle tampons, he’d do it.
First it was toilet water:

/Yes, that is real people. There is actually a perfume called “McGraw.”
Then a few weeks ago, I found out that Tim McGraw had done a “duet” with the hip hopper Nelly.
WARNING: WATCHING OF THE FOLLOWING VIDEO MIGHT CAUSE VIOLENT PROJECTILE VOMITING!
“Uh, uh !!!”
Is that all these new hip hoppers have?
“Uh, uh !!!”
If Timberly and Nelly are so heartbroken as they seem in this song, I suggest Nelly just cross that split screen into Tim’s cabin, and they can make love all night in front of the fireplace on the bear rug.
Now that’s a match made in Nashville heaven.
And now it has come to light that Timbely, in an attempt to stay relevant and make up for the fact that he has no redeemable talent, has just cut a new song with 19-year-old R & B douche Chris Brown. Apparently Chris Brown was Billboard’s 2008 Artist of the Year.
Eh, never heard of him.
From CMT:
” . . . But his (Chris Brown’s) most surprising collaboration is with Tim McGraw, on a song called “Human” which has yet to be released. “It’s incredible, he says. “I wanted to do something more along the country line. That’s a bigger and different audience for me. I also did a song with the Japanese group called the Teriyaki Boys out of Pharrell’s camp.”
The Teriyaki Boys? WTF? I’d rather watch a sumo wrestler take a dump than listen to that garbage. I’d rather have a pair of chop sticks shoved up my ass sideways.
But the line I want you to remember from this story is: “I wanted to do something more along the country line. That’s a bigger and different audience for me.”
Remember this, because it is going to be important in a future blog.

Random News Roundup Vol. 6
Hank III Interview Now on Podcast:

Big G’s interview with Hank III on the Texas Roadshow is now up on podcast HERE for your listening enjoyment! IT IS OVER AN HOUR LONG !! And is packed with so much great stuff I can’t even get into it all here. Big G is an amazing interviewer. When you listen you feel like it’s just two people sitting on a back porch sippin’ beers, shooting the shit. This really allows whoever’s being interviewed to feel comfortable, which makes a good interview.
Great job Big G !!!
IBWIP Special Live Vidcast !!
The It Burns When I Pee podcast will be airing a special LIVE vidcast of the taping of Episode 22 tomorrow (Wed) at 7 PM CST! You can watch and participate HERE and the scoop is that the very hot Norma Jean will be receiving A SURPRISE GIFT! The actual episode won’t air until December 19th, but this is a behind the scenes glimpse of the well-orchestrated train wreck which is IBWIP.
So be there or be square !!

Speaking of IBWIP, I forgot to mention in this blog that at the Metal Farm Magazine release party, IBWIP also interviewed Metal Farm’s Head Hellbilly Randy Bake.
I’m also pleased to announce that Metal Farm is now an official sponsor of savingcountrymusic.com !
If you haven’t picked up your copy of Metal Farm yet, you should get that done. I wrote a review of it HERE.
New Hank III Video from Layla’s Bluegrass Inn:
Snarfed from a Tonya Watts blog . Check it:
And last but not least, you should check out the Hank III Coalition’s blogs about the MySpace Music Awards. This is a great idea.

The Highlights In You Hair Are a Dead Giveaway . . .
Real quick, Big G’s interview with Hank III last night was amazing. It’s lasted 1 hr 20 min and covered all kinds of stuff, but instead of trying to give the Cliff Notes version right now and make you salivate for something you can’t hear, I’ll wait until Big G posts it to his podcast and give you a big write-up then.
“The highlights in your hair are a dead giveaway
You’re not singing country music
100 Desperate Housewives at the ‘Meet and Greet’
Just waiting to meet and cheat
You keep singing pop songs and taking photo ops
You’re a sissy new age cowboy country fuck.”
Sissy New Age Cowboy by Brent Amaker and the Rodeo
For those of you who don’t know, this is Brent Amaker and the Rodeo. You can also find them on MySpace by clicking here.
I first heard this on Tim Pop Live episode #110 and just about fell out of my chair when I heard “The highlights in your hair are a dead giveaway, you’re not singing country music.” If you want to make it in pop country, you don’t need talent. You need a tennis ball shoved down the front of your jeans, a tub of bleach and three hours in the hairstylist chair to make you hair look like you just woke up on it.
Check it:

Pat Green

Puke.

Rascal Flatts
I mean look at that dude on the left. Are you fucking kidding me? Are you really rolling with that haircut and trying to call yourself country music? WHAT IN THE HELL IS GOING ON ?!?!
Listen, I’m all for people rolling with whatever look they want and not judging books by their covers and all that, but this is just over-the-top, silly-ass vanity to an objectionable degree that has no place in any part of our culture, country or not.
If I ever saw this dude in person I would risk jail time to rag out his ‘doo’ and give him a knuckle burner.
What a joke.

Hank III with Big G/ TimPop 2.0 / & IBWIP Delivers !

Free Hank III supporter and all around good guy Big ‘G’ of the Texas Roadshow has landed a big fish, as none other than Hank Williams III will be LIVE tonight on Revolution FM, which you can listen to online by clicking that link. The interview will air at midnight CST, and I don’t want to hear any whining that it’s after your bedtime. You ain’t gonna turn into a pumpkin at the strike of midnight, just pitch a tent under the covers, give NyQuil to your mommy, whatever you got to do just make it happen.
But if you can’t listen tonight, then I’m sure at some point it will be posted on Big ‘G’s podcast where you can also find other cool interviews.

Speaking of hiding under the covers, our beloved Tim Pop is all growns up, and has hit the podcast big time. He has been picked up by punkradiocast.com which is one of the biggest podcast outfits out there. His first show was live on Wednesday 9 PM EST. His shows will continue to be archived at timpoplive.com as well, so if you can’t catch them live, you can always listen or download them later.

And not to drill it into your brain but if you have not checked out It Burns When I Pee Episode 21, you got to get that shit done.
Pound for pound, IBWIP is the best REAL country monthly podcast, and the best-sounding, most professional podcast PERIOD. Great format, great hosts, great commentary, great interviews, and most importantly REAL country music.
Episode 21 was a special one because it included live interviews from the Metal Farm Magazine release party with Keith Neltner and Blake Judd who are the heart and soul of the movement to Reinstate Hank Williams to the Grand Ole Opry.
The thing that I like about IBWIP is that it is a funny podcast and you can tell they have lots of fun putting it together, but when Blake Clayton gets down to interviewing someone, he really takes it seriously. Not that he doesn’t have fun, but he asks good and smart questions and you really come away understanding whoever he interviews better.
For example with Blake Judd and Keith Neltner, after listening to the interviews I really felt like these are good, honest, hard working dudes with good heads on their shoulders and with their hearts in the right place, and it makes me feel great that they are the creative team behind Reinstate Hank. Sometimes this stuff can be hard to translate through MySpace pages or websites.
Blake Clayton and Norma Jean from IBWIP drove all the way from Peoria, IL to Cincinnati to be at the Metal Farm release and do the interviews. That is dedication my friends. Nobody is paying them to do this stuff, they do it because they want to.
And that honesty and true enthusiasm about the music is why REAL country music will never die. Why us, the grass roots, will never go away and never succumb to the moneychangers who have taken over our country music institutions. WE ARE COUNTRY MUSIC. Those people on the pop country stations, they’re impostors. We know it, and they know it. And someday, everyone will know it and pop country’s house of cards will fall.
Believe it.

So Many Podcasts, So Little Time.

Man, I’ll tell you. Since I started this thing I’ve been trying to push the podcasts out there that support REAL Country music and real music in general. But the thing with podcasts is sometimes they come and go, because of course just like us bloggers, there’s no money in it, and it can consume a lot of your time. But I’m happy to report that the podcast scene in the Outlaw music underground is thriving, and as strong as ever! In fact there’s some spanking new ones out there!
Outlaw Radio
If you haven’t listened to Outlaw Radio yet at 9PM Central Time on Tuesdays, you’re missing the party. If you like the bands in my top friends, including Hank III, .357 String Band, JB Beverly, Willie & Waylon then this podcast is right down your alley. It’s kind of weird to get to, but trust me, it’s worth it. If you add them as a MySpace friend, then you will get bulletins before the show with links to where you can listen to it.
He’s got great interviews too. In the last couple weeks he’s interviewed Joe Buck and Jayke from the .357 String Band. Hopefully in the future they will make it where they can archive shows so you can listen any time because this podacst ROCKS!
New Big ‘G’ Podcast!
Also on the new front, Big G has a new podcast where he archives his big interviews on Revolution FM’s nightly Texas Roadshow HERE! Go there people, he’s just posted an interview with UNKNOWN HINSON!!!, plus there’s interviews with Kinky Friedman and Billy Bob Thorton there, and many more to come.
Others you May of Not Heard Before:
And if I’m mentioning podcasts I got to mention Tim Pop Live whose got a new band and couple of new podcasts up I still got to catch up with. He’s been a HUGE Free Hank III supporter from the beginning, and plays cool old school punk, metal, and some country too. Then there’s It Burns When I Pee which is the BEST MONTHLY underground country podcast.
Johnny Wright Jr.
But big kudos need to go out to Johny Wright Jr. who appeared on Ralph’s Back Porch on Blog Talk Radio talking about the Reinstate Hank Movement. He’s also got a great new blog up about Reinstate Hank HERE.
Listen people, don’t try to fight through the pop country garbage on the radio any more. Tell the people playing Jessica Simpson between commercials for Viagra and Korean Cars to kiss your ass, and get into podcasting. It’s a great way to hear new bands, and it’s a great way to support independent, local artists!
I know I’ve given you a lot to crunch, but come back to this page and get your podcast fix in small doses.
/It’ll get ya feeling like a good ol’ American boy, or girl.

Kinky Friedman Interview on Big ’G’s Roadshow!
He was also the first foul mouthed, insensitive, over the top dude before David Allan Coe came on the scene. See old Kinky is Jewish, and he figured as a minority (so to speak) he could say whatever he damned pleased and get away with it. Check it:
Both these videos came from the first season of Austin City Limits . Yep, that was filmed for a PUBLIC TELEVISION STATION! Of course the episode never aired, but the point of the first season of Austin City Limits was to highlight and preserve the great artists down there revolutionizing country music, and Kinky could not be left out.
The reason I’m bringing this up is because Big G, a BIG Free Hank III supporter is going to have him on his radio show tonight. It’s going to air a 12:00 AM Central Time, so some of you east coasters might have to wait until it’s available on podcast, but if you’re on the west coast like me, we can listen to it live no problem.
You can listen to it online at Revolution FM (look for the silver ‘Listen Live’ button), and you can listen to Big G every weeknight from 12:00 AM until 6:00 AM. He plays Hank III, a lot of Texas artists, and he’s pals with Unknown Hinson. In fact if you go to Big’s G’s MySpace site, you can hear him discuss Unknown with Billy Bob Thorton in an interview he did last week.
You can also check out Kinky Friedman’s MySpace Page .
You got to love a dude that has Billy Joe Shaver and the Reverend Horton Heat in his top friends! Speaking of:
Billy Joe Shaver in Trouble w/ the Po Po
I don’t know much about this story than what I’ve Read Here, but apparently Billy Joe shot a man in the cheek a while back. He was formally indicted on Wednesday, and has posted bond and is out now.
Dale Watson wrote a song about it called ‘Where Do You Want It?’ Check it out:

More Imposters/ Vinyl/ Podcasts/Boobs/Olympics/ Whatever
Wasn’t planning to post a blog today but there’s a bunch of random shit to talk about, so here we go.
First off sorry to everyone who tried to leave comments or kudos on my blog yesterday and got an error message. Stupid MySpace.
Another Hank III Impostor
If you go here you can see there’s yet another Hank III impostor. I don’t know if these dudes get off on this or what, but man does it bring my piss to a boil. He even put “me” under a picture of Hank III. Is this dude sick? Shit just be yourself. Again to report these bastards you go all the way down to the bottom of the page and click “report abuse.”
The problem is that MySpace will probably not take it down unless Hank III contacts MySpace himself, and then he’s got to take a picture of himself holding a photo ID or some bullshit, it’s this huge process. The way we got the last site taken down was through copyright infringement, because they had Shelton’s music on it illegally.
But still, it can’t hurt to report his ass, and maybe the sheer volume will make MySpace see the light.
Damn Right, Rebel Proud to be Released on Vinyl !!!
Yep, if you want to kick it old school, there will be a number of DRRP albums pressed in vinyl, and it will also include with it the CD. For more info on this you can read the release on HANK III.com where you can also get all Hank III OFFICIAL news.
I don’t think this will be something you can order online, but I’m not sure. You might have to go to your local record store and convince Pimples the Wonder Boy how to figure out how to special order it for you. But I think it’s kick ass they’re doing this and I’m definitely getting a copy.
Podcasts Podcasts !!!
Tim Pop Live has just release his 100th show, and there is a rumor that the head hellbilly of freehank3.org MIGHT make an audio appearance. So you should check that out, and you should also check out his last show which was an all country show if you haven’t yet.
It Burns When I Pee has just released their latest podcast featuring the women of underground country. It’s got an interview with the lovely Rachel Brooke, and great music so you should check it out. If you want a preview of the show, or to learn more about some of the female artists it features, you can check out my Ode to the Hellbetties blog.
I’ll be listening to these podcasts and might have some reviews up for you later.
Also, I always mention the podcasters, but we also can’t forget the traditional radio people who support Hank III like Revolution FM down in Texas and Big ‘G’s Roadshow.
Boobs & the Olympics
Let me just say that I like boobs. Big boobs, small boobs, real boobs, fake boobs. I’m a fan of ‘em all.
I just wanted to say that clear up some misunderstandings that might’ve arisen from my Ode to the Hellbetties blog. If you thought that I was implying that I do not like boobs, and thus, may not be as much of a man as you thought I was before, that was not what I was trying to say. Nor was I targeting fake boobs as being bad.
I simply was trying to make the point that pop country today is all pretty faces and no substance. It used to be that if country singers were easy on the eyes, that was a bonus. But now if you aren’t hot by the bland standards of Nashville, then you can’t make it in country music.
And pop country singers don’t write their own songs any more. That’s what the “ugly” people do behind the scenes, while the “pretty” people get all the fame and money lip sincing what others write.
Sound familiar?

This is what’s happening in music all over the world, and it must be stopped.

New Article About Free Hank III !!!
curb – (n.) a barrier, designed to keep good stuff from the masses.
That’s how a new article about Hank III and the Free Hank III movement starts out in this month’s edition of the Hill Country Happenings . Gordon Ames, one of the DJ’s on Revolution Radio is the author. Revolution Radio is a huge supporter of Hank III and other underground/outlaw country artists. I listen to it online when I want to listen to a country music radio station, instead of turning on my local country station trying to shove Toby Keith and Keith Urban down my throat.
To see the article, go to hchappenings.com and click “Click Here for the PDF Magazine” and it is on page 11. And of course if you’re from the Texas Hill Country, pick up a copy.
Do me a favor and help spread the word about this, and rumble on over to Gordon Ames’ MySpace site and tell him you appreciate him supporting Free Hank III.
‘Big G’ Gordon is people who knows people in the Outlaw Country/Texas Music scene. Here he is hanging with Unknown Hinson:
I’m trying to get as much press coverage as I can to help spread the word about what they’re doing to Hank III, and hopefully this is one of many articles to come, unless Curb gives up the ghost soon and I can call the dogs off.
Thanks to Gordon, to everyone spreading the word about Hank III, and all the people who helped with the Reinstate Hank rally this weekend.
If you want to see pictures of the rally, check out Cathy’s Myspace site under her picture folders.

Revolution Radio Supports the Free Hank III Movement!
So my plan for today was to to roast the limp dicks and lushes who won awards at Sunday’s American Country Music Awards, but then I heard from this dude:
He is a DJ at Revolution FM and the host of the ‘Big G’s Texas Roadshow.’ Revolution FM has radio stations all over Central and West Texas, and they are huge fans and supporters of Hank III and REAL country music. I’ve been listening to them online all day, and thanks to Big G they’ve been doing ‘tall boys’ (two songs in a row) from Hank III, mentioning the Free Hank III movement, and letting people know how Curb Records is screwing him over!
Also, Gordon writes for The Hill Country Happenings , and they are going to do a piece about the situation with Hank III in the upcoming June edition!
So let’s support the people that are supporting us and Hank III. You can add Gordon ‘Big G’ Ames & The Big Texas Roadshow Here , and you can add Revolution FM Here .
I knew that Big G Gordon was one of us when I was talking on the phone with him and he had me call me back because he had to take a ‘Kenny Chesney.’ In other words, he had to vacate his bowels. He’s on a first name basis with people like Willie Nelson and Robert Earle Keen, and is a hell of a good person to have on board with us.
I’ve been trying to do what I can to get more radio stations and media outlets on board because even now there’s people who’ve never heard of Hank III, or haven’t heard his music, or even worse, think it’s his fault the new album isn’t out. I also just added a lot more content to freehank3.org to give people more information about what’s happening to III and what we can do about it.
I’ll let you know when the Hank III Hill Country Happenings article drops, and I’m trying to put some audio together of all the different Free Hank III stuff from the radio and podcasts.
